Sale of premises in Trumpington Street, Bene't Place, and Brookside: Notice

17 October 2005

The sale or other disposal of 15-19, 21, and 22 Trumpington Street, 2-5 Bene't Place, and 17-19 Brookside was approved by Graces 2 and 3 of 5 March 2003. The Council undertook in their Report of 25 November 2002 on the construction of a new Faculty building for the School of Education (Reporter, 2002-03, p. 360) and in their Notice of 3 March 2003 (p. 683) to publish a further Notice setting out the agreed terms of any sales of these buildings.

The Council are now able to announce that the sale of the freehold of 17-19 Brookside was completed in February 2004. Negotiations for disposals on long leases of 15-19 Trumpington Street to a hotel operator, conditional upon obtaining acceptable planning consents, and of 2-5 Bene't Place to a school are close to conclusion. It is anticipated that the sales will be satisfactorily completed during the current academical year. The Council will publish further details including the total net proceeds when the transactions have been concluded.

21 and 22 Trumpington Street remain unsold, the only bidder having withdrawn from the transaction prior to exchange of contracts. Their future use will be reconsidered as part of a strategic review of the Trumpington Street properties currently being undertaken.
