PROFESSORSHIP OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2006, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will have internationally acknowledged expertise and an outstanding record of research and publication in the field of Ancient Philosophy. He or she will take an active part in the administration of the Faculty of Philosophy, and will play a leading role in stimulating and developing the study of Ancient Philosophy in the University and communicating to a wider public the interest and importance of the subject.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Keble College is associated with the Professorship.

UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP IN EGYPTOLOGY

The University proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Egyptology in association with St Cross College. The appointment will run from l July 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants should hold, or expect to hold by the start of the appointment, a doctorate in the field of Egyptology, and be able to provide evidence of their ability to teach Egyptology at university level. The successful candidate will have a primary expertise in Egyptology, and will be required to give lectures, classes, and tutorials, including teaching one or more phases of the ancient Egyptian language (which may include Coptic), to co-ordinate teaching, to carry out research, examine, supervise graduate students, and play a part in the administrative work of the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

The salary for this post will be between £23,643 and £45,707 a year.
