WEIR JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN THE MEDICAL SCIENCES (INCLUDING BIOCHEMISTRY)

University College, Oxford, invites applications from candidates with an outstanding research record for the Weir Junior Research Fellowship.

The Junior Research Fellowship is tenable for three years from 1 October 2006. Junior Research Fellowships are intended to provide opportunities for outstanding academics at the beginning of their careers. The Statutes of the College currently provide that the successful candidate should be under thirty-five years of age.

The current stipend for a Junior Research Fellow is £16,242 (under review). The stipend will normally be paid at a reduced rate if the successful candidate is in receipt of other funding. The Fellow will be offered free meals and single accommodation in College if available, or a housing allowance in lieu (currently £4,375 a year). There will be an academic allowance (currently £1,438), an entertainment allowance (currently up to £576), membership of USS and private health insurance. There may be opportunities for the Fellow to carry out a limited amount of undergraduate teaching for the College.

Selected candidates may be asked to submit a piece of written work, such as offprints of one or two published articles or a chapter of their theses. Applicants should indicate on their application forms which material they propose to submit, if invited to do so, but should not at this stage submit any written work.

STEVENSON JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN THE ARTS

University College, Oxford, invites applications for the Stevenson Junior Research Fellowship in the Arts, tenable for a period of three years from October 2006. The Fellowship will be awarded within the fields of Politics, Philosophy and Law, three areas in which University College has major clusters of research and teaching activity.

OFFICIAL FELLOWSHIP AND UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP (CUF) IN BRITISH HISTORY

University College proposes to appoint a Fellow and Tutor in British History with effect from 1 October 2006. The Fellowship will be held in conjunction with a University Lectureship (CUF) in the Faculty of History and a Stipendiary Lectureship at New College.

Applications are invited in the field of later nineteenth- and twentieth-century British history.

The Fellow will be required to undertake eight hours of teaching a week averaged over the three eight-week terms for the two Colleges (five for University College and three for New College) in relevant courses in History and its Joint Schools, and to give lectures and undertake graduate teaching and supervision for the Faculty. The combined College and University salary is on an age-related scale up to £45,707 a year (under review), plus substantial allowances.
