REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICES BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Architecture Tripos, Part IA

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 238)

With effect from 1 October 2006

The teaching of history and theory of architecture in Part IA of the Architecture Tripos has been revised. As a result, Papers 1-3 of Part IA of the Tripos will be replaced by two papers and candidates will be required to take five papers instead of six. The regulations have been amended as follows:

Regulation 12.

Section A.

By rescinding Papers 1-3, renumbering Papers 4-6 as 3-5 respectively, and introducing two new papers:

Paper 1. An introduction to architectural history.
Paper 2. An introduction to architectural theory.

Regulation 13.

By amending sub-paragraph (a) so as to read:

(a) to offer all five papers in Section A;

SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

The detail for Papers 1-3 has been replaced by the following detail for the new Papers 1-2 with effect from the same date:

Paper 1. An introduction to architectural history

The paper deals with a selective introduction to the history of architecture and the city in Western Europe from classical antiquity to the start of the twentieth century.

Paper 2. An introduction to architectural theory

The paper deals with an introduction to theoretical writings on architecture and the role of the architect from the middle of the nineteenth century to the present related to the architectural practices of the time.
