Readership in Astronomy: Notice

Applications are invited for a Readership in Astronomy available at the Institute of Astronomy from 1 October 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates will need to demonstrate an internationally recognized academic reputation for excellence in research. The Institute is seeking to strengthen further its research in observational astronomy following the appointment of Professor Robert Kennicutt to the Plumian Professorship of Astronomy and Experimental Philosophy. Preference may therefore be given to observational astronomers, but candidates in any field of astronomy relevant to the research interests of the Institute are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Institute's teaching programme.

Readerships are tenured positions. The pensionable stipend for a Readership is currently £45,885 a year. Further details are available at http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/vacancies. Applications including a completed application form PD18, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of research plans, and the names and contact details of three referees, should reach Mrs Di Sword, Institute of Astronomy, Madingley Road, Cambridge, CB3 0HA (e-mail di@ast.cam.ac.uk) by 1 July. Further information about the Institute of Astronomy is available at http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/.

The University is committed to equality of opportunity.
