Keble College

RESEARCH FELLOW AND TUTOR IN ENGLISH

Keble College proposes to elect a Research Fellow and Tutor in English for a period of three years (fixed-term, non-renewable) from 1 October 2005. Scholars in receipt of another source of income, who would like a College association, are welcome to apply. Applications are invited from candidates specializing in nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature; the person appointed will be required to teach Moderations papers on text, context, and intertext, Victorian literature, and twentieth-century literature, as well as Moderations and Final Honour School options in those subjects. An ability to teach American literature would be an advantage. The teaching stint will be six hours a week averaged over the 24-week academical year. The Fellow may be asked to help in a limited way with the academic and pastoral organization of the subject and to participate in undergraduate admissions. Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Diane Purkiss (tel. 01865 272766, e-mail diane.purkiss@btinternet.com).

The Fellow will not be a member of the Governing Body, but will be a full member of the Senior Common Room and will be entitled to lunch and dinner at the Common Table as well as an academic allowance of £412 a year (adjustable annually). A shared room will be available. The stipend for up to six hours of teaching a week averaged over the year will be £5,616 a year (adjustable annually). In addition, a Fellow who is not in receipt of other income will receive a housing allowance of £3,535 a year (adjustable annually). The Fellow will be eligible to join USS.

Further particulars, containing details of the application procedure, remuneration, and duties, may be obtained from the Warden's Personal Assistant, Ms Trish Long, Keble College, Oxford, OX1 3PG (tel. 01865 272700, e-mail trish.long@keb.ox.ac.uk) or from the College's website at http://www.keble.ox.ac.uk/life/vacancies/index.php. The closing date for applications is 6 July.
