SLADE VISITING PROFESSOR OF FINE ART (2007-08)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Slade Visiting Professor in Fine Art for the academical year 2007-08. The Professorship includes an opportunity not only to give a series of public lectures but also to connect those lectures, by means of accompanying seminars, with the seminar programme of the University's graduate courses in History of Art and Visual Culture. The successful candidate will be required to give no fewer than eight public lectures on an aspect of the History, Theory, or Practice of the Fine Arts during the Hilary (Spring) Term of 2008; hold four fortnightly seminars during the same term; choose and prepare the topics for the lectures and seminars in close consultation with the University's Professor of History of Art.

The stipend will be £8,000 for eight lectures and four seminars given during January, February, and March 2008; £1,000 in expenses is also provided.

Accommodation is provided by All Souls College, although a charge is made for this provision.

The successful candidate is likely to be an artist or art historian of international reputation. An ability to lecture engagingly at a level suitable for both the general public and for high-calibre graduate students is essential.

Applications should take the form of a full curriculum vitae, a two-page letter stating the applicant's reason for applying, a brief statement of the overall topic of the lecture and seminar programme, and a suggested programme of lectures over eight weeks.
