Announcement of lectures, seminars, etc.

The following lectures, seminars, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

Engineering. Mechanics Colloquia will be held at 2.30 p.m. on Fridays in Lecture Room 6, Department of Engineering, Trumpington Street.

13 May Carbon nanotubes and their potential applications, by Professor Bill Milne, of the Department of Engineering.
27 May Mesoscopic events in living cells, by Professor Dennis Bray, of the Department of Anatomy.

Centre for Family Research. Lunch-time seminars will be held at 1 p.m. promptly on Tuesdays, in Room 606, Centre for Family Research, Free School Lane.

17 May Young children's social competence: associations with two-year-olds' socio-cognitive skills and relationships with caregivers, by Rosie Ensor, of the Centre for Family Research.
14 June Framing the foetus in medical work: representations and practices, by Clare Williams, of King's College, London.

Gender Studies. The following events are scheduled for the Easter Term. Details are available at http://www.gender.cam.ac.uk/.

Jane Fonda in Cambridge. On 7 June, Jane Fonda will be in conversation to discuss her autobiography, My life so far, with Carol Gilligan and Juliet Mitchell. The event will take place in Great St Mary's Church, St Mary's Passage, between 1 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. Jane Fonda will also be discussing her films at the Arts Cinema, 38-39 St Andrew's Street, at 3 p.m., and will attend a book-signing at Waterstone's Bookshop, 22-24 Sidney Street, from 5.30 p.m.

Gender Skills Seminars will take place in Seminar Room G, 2/F, 17 Mill Lane, on Thursdays between 1 p.m. and 2.30 p.m.

Centre for the Study of Jewish-Christian Relations. On 18 May, at 2 p.m. for 2.15 p.m., Eva Frojmovic will speak on Jewish scribes and Christian illuminators in thirteenth-century Germany: thoughts on cultural translation and negotiation. The seminar will be held at the Centre for the Study of Jewish-Christian Relations, Wesley House, Jesus Lane.

Mathematics. The Mordell Lecture for 2005, entitled The Ramanujan conjecture and its generalizations, will take place on 17 May, and will be given by Professor Peter Sarnak, of Princeton University. It will be held in Meeting Room 2 (Wolfson Room), Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Wilberforce Road, at 5 p.m. A reception will follow.
