Notice of benefactions

12 April 2005

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has received with gratitude the following benefactions:

(a) a benefaction of £176,000 from The MathWorks, a developer of technical computing software. The purpose of the benefaction is to provide an award known as The MathWorks Studentship for postgraduate studies in Control Systems and related areas in the Faculty of Engineering;
(b) a bequest of approximately £338,000 from the Board of Cambridge in America under the Will of Mr Richard T. Tench. The Vice-Chancellor has determined, after full consultation, that the income from this benefaction shall be used towards the costs arising from keeping open the University Library on Saturday afternoons.

The Council are submitting Graces to the Regent House (Graces 2 and 3, p. 596) for the approval of regulations to govern the proposed Funds.
