With effect from 1 October 2005

The regulations have been amended to change the title of Paper B12 and to widen the choice of additional paper available to candidates in Part IIB of the Tripos.

Regulation 18.

Group B

By amending the title of Paper B12 from 'Religion and the human sciences' to 'Psychology and religion'.

Regulations 26 and 27.

By amending, in each case, proviso (ii) so as to read:

(ii)a candidate who so wishes may offer as an additional paper, either a language from Papers A1 or B1 which he or she has not previously offered, or a second language from Paper C1, if he or she is offering that paper, or one further paper chosen from Group C.

The detail for Paper B12 has been replaced with effect from the same date by the following:

Paper B12. Psychology and religion

The paper will cover topics in the empirical psychology of religion such as religious development, religion and mental health, religious experience, conversion, charismatic and fundamentalist religion, and human spiritual qualities. The paper will also cover theoretical and methodological issues including the dialogue between psychology and theology, religion and psychoanalysis, the relationship of psychology to the study of religion in the social sciences, and contemporary critiques of the psychology of religion.
