University Lecturer

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £24,820 to £38,303 a year.

University Lectureship in Veterinary Pathology in the Department of Veterinary Medicine

The Lecturer, to take up post on 1 September 2005, will undertake teaching duties (lecturing and practical classes in veterinary pathology) and will provide a pathology diagnostic service for clients associated with the Department. S/he will participate in the training of Residents and will be expected to develop a research programme in an appropriate area of interest. There are opportunities for research collaboration, in particular in the pathology of neurological damage, and infection and immunity.

This is a full-time appointment, and applicants should have a veterinary degree and experience in teaching and in diagnostic morbid anatomy and histopathology. A Ph.D. Degree in a relevant field and Membership of the European College of Veterinary Pathology is desirable.

Director of the Rural Business Unit in the Department of Land Economy

Applications are invited for the post of Director of the Rural Business Unit (formerly the Agricultural Economics Unit) in the Department of Land Economy. The appointment is available from 1 June 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter and will be made for a period of five years in the first instance. The current stipend is £44,094 a year.

The Rural Business Unit (RBU) undertakes research into farm businesses, land management, and rural policy within the Environmental Economy and Policy Research Group in the Department of Land Economy. Its work includes the Farm Business Survey undertaken on an annual basis for the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs. The Director will take overall responsibility for the RBU and will seek to draw its work more closely towards the Department's core research, especially in Environmental Economy and Policy.

Candidates may wish to develop any area of research consistent with the general interests of the RBU and the Department. While no specific disciplinary orientation is prescribed, candidates should have an interest in and an appreciation of rural business and policy analysis.
