Assistant Library Officer (Rare Books Specialist) in the University Library

The post of Rare Books Specialist offers considerable opportunity for personal and career development. The post-holder will have an informed understanding of the history of printing and book production, and a working knowledge of Latin and/or some modern European languages. The post-holder will also have excellent organizational and communication skills, and will be able to demonstrate a strong interest in reader services, user education, electronic resources, and digitization. The successful candidate should have a good honours degree, research experience and/or a professional qualification, together with practical experience of rare book librarianship.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Assistant Library Officer is £19,460 to £23,643 a year. Temporary Lectureship in the Department of Chemical Engineering

This Lectureship, which is for a fixed term of one year from 1 October 2005, is funded by the Royal Acadamy of Engineering and the Leverhulme Trust. The candidate appointed will provide full-time replacement teaching within the broad area of modern chemical engineering while a member of the Department is on research leave.

The post-holder will teach at undergraduate and possibly postgraduate level (including examining), supervise short-term research projects, and participate in the general work of the Department, including administration.

Applications will be considered from graduates in chemical engineering, or associated branches of engineering or science, such as biology, chemistry, materials science, mathematics, microbiology, or physics.

The salary for this post will not exceed £24,820. Temporary Lectureship in the Faculty of Economics

Applications are invited for a Temporary Lectureship in Microeconomics. Candidates should have a Ph.D. Degree, or be firmly expected to have a Ph.D. Degree, by September 2005.

This post is available from 1 October 2005 for a fixed term of one year in order to provide replacement teaching for a member of staff who is on leave of absence. The stipend is in the range of £24,820 to £38,303.

Temporary computing post in the Faculty of History

Applications are invited for a full-time computing post based in the Faculty of History. The post is intended to provide maternity cover from 1 April until 31 August 2005, or until the return of the current post-holder, whichever date is earlier. The Faculty is seeking a highly motivated, problem-solving, innovative, and enthusiastic applicant who can communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

The post-holder will be expected to help ensure the accurate collection and entry of RAE data, be proactive in updating the Faculty's website, and be able to maintain and develop the Faculty's Access databases. The Computer Office is responsible for all IT trouble-shooting within the Faculty (including the maintenance of all academic, administrative, and library computers, in addition to the 20 computers available for graduate use), and the post-holder will need to demonstrate experience of a wide range of software applications and general hardware problem solving skills. He/she will report to the Faculty's Grade II Computer Officer.

The salary for this post will be between £23,643 and £24,820.
