RIPPLEWOOD GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Merton College is offering one Ripplewood Graduate Scholarship in 2005. The Scholarship is intended to assist a Japanese student of outstanding academic excellence who for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to study at the University of Oxford. It covers College and University fees, and a maintenance grant equivalent to that of a UK national research funding body's doctoral maintenance award (c. £10,000 in 2004-05), net of accommodation charges where applicable. Subject to satisfactory progress, the Scholarship will be tenable for up to three years.

The competition is open to Japanese nationals who are graduates of any university, other than Oxford; who are not ordinarily resident in the UK; who have undertaken not more than two years of postgraduate study or research; who propose to begin a programme of study leading to a Master's Degree or the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in October 2005 in any of the subjects normally acceptable for graduate study at the College, apart from Medicine and the M.B.A.; and who have no other funding which would allow them to do so

The closing date for this competition is 22 April. Applicants should already have been offered places by the relevant Faculty or Department of the University or should be in the competition for the third cycle of Oxford graduate admissions. Applicants who have not been accepted as doctoral students by the relevant Faculty or Department of the University by 17 May will be rejected.
