Balliol College

FOUR-HOUR STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN MODERN BRITISH HISTORY

Balliol College proposes, if a suitable candidate applies, to appoint a four-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Modern History for Trinity Term 2005 and the succeeding Michaelmas Term 2005.

The Lecturer will be required to teach some or all of the History of the British Isles V (1685-1830), VI (1815-1924), and VII (since 1900) papers in Prelims and the Final Honour School. The Lecturer will also be expected to participate in the teaching of the Approaches to History and Historiography papers in Prelims, and the Disciplines of History paper and the Thesis in the Final Honour School.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach an average of four hours a week over the two terms. He or she will receive a stipend of £4,083 for the two terms and certain Common Room rights. Applicants should provide a letter of application supported by a curriculum vitae, and should state which parts of the syllabus they would be willing to teach. They should provide the names of two referees, whom they should ask to write directly to the Senior Tutor.
