University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for an initial period of three or five years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age, subject to satisfactory performance. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £24,820 to £38,303 a year.

University Lecturer in the Department of Italian

The Department of Italian intends to appoint a specialist in the field of post-medieval Italian studies. Experts in the areas of Italian literature, drama, gender studies, intellectual history, and cultural history are encouraged to apply. Whilst applications are encouraged from candidates expert in these areas from any period after the Middle Ages, applications are especially welcome from candidates also able to teach mid to late eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature and culture and/or the questione della lingua. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate papers and to develop a new paper in the general area of mid to late eighteenth- and nineteenth-century studies. He or she will also be expected to offer a new Master's module for the M.Phil. in European Literature and Culture and to supervise Ph.D. Degree students. He or she should also be qualified to participate in the teaching of the Italian language. The successful candidate would be expected to have an outstanding record of research and/or publication, and to take up her or his duties on 1 October 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter.

University Lecturer in the Department of Surgery

Applications are invited from candidates whose sub-specialty interest is transplant surgery (kidney and/or liver) to take up appointment as soon as possible. The successful applicant will be required to participate in teaching and clinical work and to undertake a programme of research. Application will be made to Addenbrooke's Hospital for the award of Honorary Consultant contract. The appointment will be for five years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

The successful candidate will be eligible to receive an additional payment for clinical responsibility related to the amount of NHS work undertaken. If, as expected, the Lecturer undertakes the equivalent of six or more NHS programmed activities a week the payment will be such as to bring his or her total pensionable emoluments into line with the NHS salary scale for consultants. Other University Office

Computer Officer, Grade I, in the Management Information Services Division of the University Offices

A new position has been created to assist in the Operational support of CamSIS (the University's Student Information System Project). The successful applicant will become part of a larger team of DBAs and UNIX Systems Administrators. Specific tasks for this position will include the installation of Peoplesoft software, patches, problem resolution, performance tuning, software configuration, capacity planning, architecture, and migrations.

A sound knowledge of UNIX and Oracle Database technology is essential, as is the ability to analyse requirements and administer the operational activity to ensure that service to stakeholders is delivered in an effective manner. In-depth experience of Peoplesoft application infrastructures, including Tuxedo layer, Patching Strategies, and Web servers (Apache, Weblogic, etc.) is a critical requirement.

Candidates should have experience of working on large enterprise applications, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The appointment is a permanent position. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade I, is £34,227 to £38,303 a year.
