24 November 2004

The Registrary has received notice from the Clerk at the Privy Council Office that Her Majesty the Queen, at a Council held on 17 November 2004, was pleased to approve amendments of Statute D which were submitted under the Common Seal of the University in accordance with Graces 2 of 10 December 2003 and 3 of 18 February 2004.

The amendment to Statute D, II, 6(c) authorized under Grace 2 of 10 December 2003 relates to flexible working and extends the initial period for which an officer may be dispensed from discharging part of her or his duties from three to five years (see the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 21 July and 9 July 2003, on a revision of the flexible working arrangements policy, Reporter, 2002-03, p. 1209).

The amendment to Statute D, XVII and XVIII authorized under Grace 3 of 18 February 2004 relates to the introduction of a structured probationary scheme for University Lecturers and University Senior Lecturers (see the Report of the General Board, dated 5 November 2003, on probationary arrangements for academic offices and comparable unestablished posts, Reporter, 2003-04, p. 206). As a result of the approval of the amendment to the Statute, permanent appointment to these offices and certain other academic offices and unestablished posts will be subject to satisfactory completion of a period of probation unless the waiver of this requirement is recommended by the relevant Appointments Committee and approved by the General Board.
