Leslie Stephen Lecture 2004: Notice

Further to an earlier announcement, the Vice-Chancellor is pleased to confirm that Professor Amartya Sen, CH, FBA, will give a lecture entitled The argumentative Indian on Monday, 17 May 2004, at 5.30 p.m. in the Senate-House.

Professor Sen, Lamont University Professor and Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University, will analyse the long argumentative tradition in Indian intellectual history, and the continuing relevance of that tradition. He will examine issues of democracy, pluralism, and secularism, and political conceptions of India.
