Report of the Council on the financial position of the Chest, recommending allocations for 2003-04: Notice

21 July 2003

The Council have received the remarks made at the Discussion of this Report on 8 July 2003 (Reporter, p. 1190). They recognize that a small number of the Regent House have expressed concerns about the University's financial strategy. They have not yet had the opportunity to consult the Finance Committee, the Planning and Resources Committee, or the General Board on the points raised and will give careful consideration to the concerns expressed in the light of the comments received from these bodies.

The formal recommendations in the Report allow the University to set its budget within an overall framework. That framework for the financial year 2003-04 should ideally be settled before the end of the present financial year, that is 31 July. Notwithstanding the concerns referred to above the Council believe that it is important to establish the overall position and they are accordingly submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 5, p. 1219) for the approval of the recommendations in the Report.
