Sidney Sussex College

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

The College Council is seeking to make elections to two Research Fellowships, each tenable for three years, to commence on 1 October 2004. Candidature for one Fellowship will be restricted to those pursuing or intending to pursue research in the Arts and Social Sciences. Candidature for the second Fellowship is restricted to matriculated members of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, but there is no restriction as to their research area. It is likely that the successful candidates will be close to submission of their Ph.D. Degree at the time of their election or will have completed it within the last three years.

The current pensionable stipend of a Research Fellow is £11,930 a year, or £13,577 if the Fellow holds a Ph.D. Degree. The Fellow will be entitled to a room in College and to Fellows' dining and other rights. Single residential accommodation will be made available without charge, but for those choosing to live in private accommodation there is a non-pensionable allowance of £2,515 a year. Increments to the stipend of £505 are payable in each of the second and third years of tenure to Ph.D. holders, and the level of Research Fellowship emoluments is normally reviewed annually when the stipends of University and College officers are reviewed.

The holder of a Research Fellowship will be encouraged to teach for the College for up to six hours a week, for which additional payment is made. The permission of the Council is required for other paid work and all emoluments received must be disclosed to the Council. The Council may reduce the Research Fellowship stipend in the light of other income received.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 5 September 2003. Further particulars and application forms may be obtained from the Senior Tutor's Secretary, Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, CB2 3HU, and can also be downloaded from the College website at http://www.sid.cam.ac.uk/indepth/jobs/jobs.html.

Sidney Sussex College is an equal opportunities employer.
