Research Centre for English and Applied Linguistics: Notice

The General Board, with the concurrence of the Local Examinations Syndicate which donated the funds for the Professorship, have accepted a proposal from the Management Committee and the current holder of the Professorship of English as an International Language that the Professorship should be retitled as the Professorship of English and Applied Linguistics, with effect from 1 October 2004 when it becomes vacant on her retirement. A Grace has been put forward for the approval of the new title (Grace 6, p. 881).

Subject to the approval of this Grace, Regulations 1 and 2 for the staff of the Centre will be amended, with effect from that date, as follows:

1. There shall be a Director of the Centre who shall be the Professor of English and Applied Linguistics.

2. Under the general control of the Committee of Management, the Director shall be the administrative head of the Centre, and shall be responsible for the direction of the study of the English language and its relationship to applied linguistics in the Centre and its encouragement generally in the University.
