The Governing Body of Christ's College invites applications for the W. H. D. Rouse Research Fellowship, tenable for a period of four years, for work in any of the following subjects: Classical Studies; Indian languages, including Sanskrit; and comparative philology. Application is open to holders of a degree from, or current members of, any university in the British Isles, who by 31 March 2003 will have completed at least five but not more than eleven terms of full-time research. Candidates should normally not have passed their thirtieth birthday by 31 March 2003.
The W. H. D. Rouse Research Fellow will receive a stipend on a scale of £11,401 to £17,206. Fellows living out of College will receive a supplement of approximately £3,089. A limited amount of teaching in College is permitted, for which payment will be made at the usual rates. Research Fellows are entitled to the use of a room free of charge and seven free meals a week. Research expenses may also be paid.
Application forms are available on the College website at http://www.christs.cam.ac.uk/rouse/, and may also be requested in writing from the Master's Secretary. Completed application forms should be sent to the Master's Secretary so as to reach her not later than Thursday, 17 April 2003. Candidates should also arrange for two people familiar with their work to send references to the Master's Secretary, Christ's College, Cambridge, CB2 3BU, so as to reach her not later than Thursday, 17 April 2003. Late applications cannot be accepted. Short-listed candidates will be invited by letter to submit by Thursday, 15 May 2003 three copies of any published or unpublished work with which they wish to support their application. Selected candidates will be invited for interview in early July 2003.
