Graces submitted to the Regent House on 12 February 2003

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 113), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 21 February 2003.


1. That the regulations for University Composition Fees be amended as follows:1

SCHEDULE

Courses leading to examinations for the M.Phil. Degree

With effect from 1 October 2002

By inserting the following entries:
Early Modern HistoryD    D    E
Modern European HistoryD    D    E

With effect from 1 October 2003

By amending the entry for Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development so as to read Engineering for Sustainable Development.

By deleting the entry for European Studies.

By inserting the following entry:
Contemporary European StudiesD    D    E

Courses leading to examinations for the M.St. Degree

With effect from 1 April 2003

By amending the following entry so as to read:
Applied Criminology and Management (Prison Studies) Annual

2. That the regulations for the Smith-Knight Prizes and the Smith-Rayleigh Prizes be amended as follows:2

Regulation 2.

By inserting in line 3 of sub-paragraph (a) after the words 'admission as a Graduate Student' and in lines 1 and 2 of sub-paragraph (b) after the words 'admitted as a Graduate Student' the words 'other than as a candidate for the M.Phil. Degree or for a Diploma'.

Regulation 5.

By inserting in line 6 after the words 'admitted as a Graduate Student' the words 'other than as a candidate for the M.Phil. Degree or for a Diploma'.

 

3. That the regulations for the Rebecca Flower Squire Fund be amended as follows:3

Regulation 5.

By replacing in the last line the words 'not later than 1 August' by the words 'not later than the division of the Michaelmas Term'.

Regulation 6.

By amending the last sentence so as to read:

The Managers shall announce elections not later than 30 November.

 

1 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 160. The fee proposed for the M.St. course in Applied Criminology and Management (Prison Studies) for 2003 was not available when proposals for other fees were published. The opportunity has been taken to include new courses which have recently been introduced and make other necessary amendments. See the General Board's Notices on pp. 23, 23, 464, and 518.

2 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 870. The regulations for these Prizes have been amended so as to clarify that in all cases the terms during which a candidate studies for an M.Phil. Degree are not counted as any of the three to five terms in which submission of the essay should take place.

3 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 873. The Managers of the Fund have proposed a later date for the submission of applications for Scholarships from this Fund so that these may be made during the Michaelmas Term rather than over the summer. In consequence, the announcement of elections to Scholarships has been deferred by one month.
