The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that he has accepted with gratitude the following benefactions:
(i) | under the terms of the will of the late Mrs Marie Vergottis, a benefaction of US$2,000,000 to establish a fund, to be entitled the George and Marie Vergottis Fund, to support students of Greek nationality in the University; |
(ii) | under the terms of the will of the late Professor Ronald William Girdler, formerly of Corpus Christi College, a benefaction of £300,000 to establish a fund to support research students in Geophysics; |
(iii) | from the Chuan Lyu Foundation of California, to support Taiwanese Studies: a further $100,000 for the Chuan Lyu Fellowship and Senior Visiting Scholarship Fund; and $40,000 for the purchase by the University Library of the Taiwan Gazetteer series. These generous donations represent a continuation of the support which the Chuan Lyu Foundation of California has provided over the last few years. |
The Council are submitting Graces (Grace 1 and 2, p. 527) for the approval of regulations to govern the George and Marie Vergottis Fund and the Girdler Fund.
