University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for an initial period of three or five years, with reappointment thereafter subject to satisfactory performance. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £23,296 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £35,950.

University Lecturer in the Faculty of English

The Faculty wish to appoint to a University Lectureship in eighteenth-century English literature. The post will be effective from 1 October 2003, following the retirement from his personal chair of Professor Howard Erskine-Hill, FBA. Applications are invited from those with research and teaching interests in 'the long eighteenth century', which for this purpose covers the period 1688-1847; however, candidates must be able to demonstrate a capacity to contribute to teaching literature of the period 1700-89 at both undergraduate and graduate level.

There is no application form. Applicants are asked to send TEN copies of a curriculum vitae, giving date of birth, current salary, and details of relevant teaching experience and research interests, together with a list of publications, and the names of three referees, to the Secretary of the Appointments Committee, Faculty of English, 27 Trumpington Street, Cambridge, CB2 1QA.

Seven University Lectureships in the Judge Institute of Management Studies

As part of its continuing expansion, the Judge Institute of Management Studies wishes to recruit seven new University Lecturers with expertise in any one or more of the following subject areas: organizational behaviour/human resource management; accounting; econometrics/statistics; finance; information systems; macroeconomic policy/international macroeconomics; management science and operations research; operations management; small firms/entrepreneurship; innovation; strategy. Appointment will be from 1 September 2003.

Senior Magnetic Resonance Research Scientist in the Department of Chemical Engineering

The Department's Magnetic Resonance Research Centre (MRRC) acts as a focal point for both internal and external research workers engaging in magnetic resonance related to chemical engineering research activities. The post-holder will be expected to (i) establish a position in the development of new experimental magnetic resonance techniques and image analysis methods and to implement these for general use within MRRC; (ii) co-ordinate and undertake collaborative research projects with research workers both within and outside the University; (iii) and be responsible for the detailed day-to-day running of the MRRC.

The post-holder should have a Ph.D. Degree with extensive experience of magnetic resonance technique development. Experience of Bruker and Resonance Instruments' operating systems would be an advantage. A proven ability to organize and manage research is essential. The salary will be on a scale of £23,296 to £33,679 a year, and the post will be fixed-term, for five years.

Research Co-ordinator in the Department of Chemical Engineering (Bioscience Engineering)

In view of the Department's recent expansion at the interface of biology and engineering, and completion of its state-of-the-art new bioscience-engineering facility, it is seeking a Scientist or Engineer with both organizational and academic research skills to implement the management of these activities, enhance infrastructure, and to participate actively and creatively in biological engineering research.

The post-holder should preferably have a Ph.D. Degree with research expertise at the intersection of biology and engineering. Experience of advanced analytical instruments and biological techniques is essential. A proven ability to organize and manage both a state-of-the-art facility and to oversee the work of a team of researchers is also required. The salary will be on a scale of £23,296 to £33,679 a year, and the post will be fixed-term, for five years.
