Linguistics Tripos and Linguistics Preliminary Examination, 2003

Preliminary Examination for the Linguistics Tripos

Paper 1. Introduction to linguistic theory (Paper Li. 1 of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos)

Section A of the paper will no longer contain questions on the history of linguistic thought.

Paper 2. Introduction to language history and use (Paper Li. 2 of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos)

Section B of the paper will no longer contain questions on discourse analysis, nor will questions on the history of the sub-disciplines covered in these papers be set.

Paper 8. The structure of English (Paper 8 of the Linguistics Tripos)

The paper will be divided into three sections. Candidates will be required to answer three questions, from at least two sections.

Linguistics Tripos

Paper 1. Linguistic theory

Section A of the paper will no longer contain questions on the history of linguistic thought.

Paper 2. Language history and use

Section B of the paper will no longer contain questions on discourse analysis, nor will questions on the history of the sub-disciplines covered in these papers be set.

Paper 8. The structure of English

The paper will be divided into three sections. Candidates will be required to answer one question from each section.

Paper 10. The language of Italy (Paper It. 10 of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos)

The paper will be divided into three sections. Candidates will be required to answer one question from each section.

Paper 15. The history and structure of Modern Greek (Paper Gr. 7 of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos)

Candidates will be required to answer three questions. including a compulsory linguistic commentary question.
