Professor T. W. Guinnane, B.A., Haverford College, Ph.D., Stanford, Professor of Economics, Professor of History by courtesy, at Yale University, elected Pitt Professor of American History and Institutions for 2002-03, from 1 October 2002 until 30 September 2003.
Professor Megan Vaughan, B.A., Kent, Ph.D., London, Professor of Commonwealth Studies, University of Oxford, elected Smuts Professor of Commonwealth History, from 1 October 2003.

English. Dr S. T. Meecham Jones, M.A., TH, M.A., Oxford, Ph.D., Wales, has been granted the title of Affiliated Lecturer from 1 October for two years.
Public Health and Primary Care. Dr C. R. Palmer, HH, reappointed from 1 October 2002 until the retiring age.
University Library. Ms A. E. Murray, W, reappointed from 1 February 2003 until the retiring age.
Geography. Mr P. J. Stickler reappointed from 1 April 2003 for five years.
Physics. Mr M. Crofts and Mr B. A. Wood reappointed from 1 January 2003 for five years.
