Research Awards for Overseas Research Students in the Humanities and Social Sciences: Notice

Statutes and Ordinances, 2002, p. 127 Regulation 2(h)

The Board of Graduate Studies invites applications for Research Awards which they propose to make in May 2003 and November 2003. Awards may be made at least once a year to Graduate Students who are formally registered as candidates for a research degree and who are in need of financial assistance, provided that (a) they are engaged in research in a subject within the Humanities or the Social Sciences, (b) they are ordinarily resident outside the United Kingdom, (c) are formally registered for a research degree and have completed four terms of research as registered Graduate Students of the University and have shown a high aptitude for research. Every application must have the support of the applicant's College. The Board pay particular attention to the extent to which an applicant's financial difficulties are of an unforeseen nature. To avoid disappointment and unrealistic requests, applicants are asked to note that the average size of award rarely exceeds £1,000.

Forms of application may be obtained from the office of the Board of Graduate Studies, 4 Mill Lane, Cambridge, CB2 1RZ. Applications must be sent to the Secretary of the Board's Research Awards Scheme so as to arrive not later than 31 March 2003 for consideration in May 2003 and not later than 30 September 2003 for consideration in November 2003.
