PEOPLE'S PORTRAITS AT GIRTON

An exhibition of portraits will be on display at Girton College to members of the public, from 27 September 2002.

People's Portraits was originally commissioned by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 2000 to represent ordinary people in all walks of life, and thereby to offer a picture of the United Kingdom as the twentieth century moved into the twenty-first. The collection is rich in the diversity of its subjects. The artists are all members of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and include Daphne Todd, June Mendoza, David Cobley, Andrew Festing, and Paul Brason, amongst many others.

Now the exhibition has come to Girton as a long-term loan from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. The concept of the collection chimes with the College's ethos of community, and its interest in art, particularly portraiture. Thirty-one paintings have been offered for this new location, and Girton has transformed an area of the College into a special exhibition space.

People's Portraits will be open to the public from 27 September 2002. Opening times: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The exhibition may be seen at other times by arrangement. Please telephone 01223 338999 for details.
