The programme will examine continuities and discontinuities in the material and intellectual culture of the German-speaking world, and issues of cultural memory, particularly as reflected in literary texts. Over forty high-profile scholars will be coming from the USA, Ireland, and Italy, as well as from the UK, Germany, and Austria. Leading speakers include Aleida Assmann, Manfred Engel, Ulrich Gaier, Helen Watanabe-O'Kelly, and Joachim Whaley.

The conference organizers are David Midgley, St John's College (drm7@joh.cam.ac.uk), and Christian Emden, Sidney Sussex College (cje22@hermes.cam.ac.uk). Further details of the group's activities, which includes a seminar programme throughout the coming academic year, can be found on the Department of German website.
