Posts in the Estate Management and Building Service

Administrative Officer, Grade II

The University hopes to be in a position to appoint an Administrative Officer, Grade II, to take up appointment as soon as possible.

The post-holder will report to the Directorate Accountant and will be responsible for developing and operating the capital accounting function in support of the University's capital programme.

Applicants should be part-qualified accountants or graduates with an interest in accountancy, with proven IT skills. Experience with capital projects and with Oracle Financials would be useful.

Appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time. An Administrative Officer who has reached the maximum of the scale may be appointed to the retiring age. The current pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade II, is £20,470 rising by six annual increments to £26,491.

Advisory Officer, Grade I

The University hopes to be in a position to appoint an Advisory Officer, Grade I (Estates Surveyor) to take up appointment as soon as possible.

The post-holder will report to the Senior Surveyor and be responsible for managing a part of the University's property portfolio.

Applicants should be Chartered General Practice Surveyors with excellent commercial skills and the ability to take an analytical and strategic view.

Appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time. An Advisory Officer who has reached the maximum of the scale may be appointed to the retiring age. The current pensionable scale of stipends for an Advisory Officer, Grade I, is £24,435 rising by five annual increments to £29,709.

Senior Advisory Officer (Space Manager)

The University hopes to be in a position to appoint a Senior Advisory Officer (Space Manager) in the University Offices to take up appointment as soon as possible.

The post-holder will assist in the development and implementation of policies and practices for the effective use of space.

Applicants should have a relevant degree and/or professional qualification, together with previous experience in space or facilities management.

Appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The current pensionable scale of stipends for a Senior Advisory Officer is £30,819 rising by three annual increments to £34,734.

Senior Advisory Officer (Project Manager)

The University hopes to be in a position to appoint a Senior Advisory Officer (Project Manager) to take up appointment as soon as possible.

The post-holder will report to the Director of Estate Management dealing with the management of projects at pre-feasibility and feasibility stages.

Applicants should be a graduate in a discipline relevant to the construction industry, and preferably should be professionally qualified. Previous experience in or relating to the construction industry is required.

Appointment will be for five years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The annual salary will be in the range of £30,819 rising by three annual increments to £34,734.

Computer Officer, Grade III, in the Management Information Services Division

A vacancy exists in the User Services Section of the Division for a Computer Officer, Grade III. The principal duties of this newly created role will be to provide technical expertise in NT/Windows 2000 and Lotus Notes/Domino workstation and server environments. The post is a support role and encompasses both backoffice and frontline duties. Applicants should be educated to degree level and have at least two years experience in a similar role.

The appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade III, is £20,470 a year, rising by six annual increments to £26,491. The starting point will depend on experience and age.

Graduate Programme Co-ordinator in the Faculty of Economics and Politics

Applications are invited for a part-time post of Graduate Programme Co-ordinator in the Faculty of Economics and Politics. The post-holder will have day-to-day responsibility for administering Degree Committee business and for managing the Faculty's graduate programme. Duties will include the direction and supervision of graduate office support staff. The successful candidate will be required to service a number of committees and will need to develop a detailed knowledge of University regulations and procedures relating to Degree Committees, including those relating to Ph.D., M.Phil., and Diploma examinations.

The successful candidate will have management expertise, well-developed organizational skills, experience of leading a small team, and the ability to relate well to staff and students. Good communication skills, including report writing, are required.

Candidates should be educated to degree level. Previous relevant experience in a senior administrative post is essential, preferably in a higher education establishment. The post is part-time (fifty per cent of full-time) and salary will be in the range of £20,470 to £26,491 a year pro-rata. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with eligibility for reappointment.

Unestablished Fixed-Term Lectureship/Assistant Lectureship in the Department of Engineering (Structural Engineering)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a two-year Lectureship/Assistant Lectureship in Structural Engineering. The holder of this post will join the Structures Group of the Department of Engineering, and will play an active role in the teaching and research activities of the Group.

The main research areas in Structural Engineering are currently in bridges (including dynamics), concrete structures, advanced composites, and smart and lightweight structures; it is hoped to make an appointment that complements these existing areas of strength. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong interest in computational methods of structural analysis, and with a clear potential to develop a vigorous programme of research that links with and exploits rapidly growing new areas.

The pensionable salary scale for a Lecturer ranges from £22,522 to £34,734. For an Assistant Lecturer the scale ranges from £19,681 to £24,435. Researchers in the Cambridge Programme for Industry

The Programme for Industry is the University's centre for continuing professional education and development. It is engaged with a wide range of private and public sector organizations in developing and running learning programmes at a local, national, and international level.

The Programme is seeking two experienced Researchers to take responsibility for implementing a number of our research projects in the field of workplace learning. This will require the post-holders to work closely with staff across the organization as it develops and utilizes a wider understanding of professional learning in health, environment, sustainable development, and e-Learning.

Successful candidates may have experience in individual and organizational learning in at least one of the above areas, and will be able to operate across disciplines and communicate effectively with researchers and practitioners in a wide range of contexts. The candidates may have a background in academic research, adult education, or in the strategic development of HR policy. The candidates should be able to demonstrate understanding of how adults learn, and be committed to the advancement of policy and practice in this area. This is a very hands-on role within our team of experienced Programme Managers, so a flexible and creative approach is required.

The appointments will be made on the following scales: Research Associate (£17,626 to £26,491 a year) and/or Senior Research Associate (£22,522 to £30,819 a year). The starting salary will depend on experience, qualifications, and abilities. The posts will be for one year in the first instance, and may be renewed for a further period subject to availability of funding.
