Language Teaching Officer in the Faculty of Oriental Studies

The Faculty of Oriental Studies wish to appoint a Language Teaching Officer in Hindi. Applications are invited from candidates with knowledge of Hindi equivalent to that of a native speaker. Candidates must have a good command of English. The successful candidate will be asked to teach language courses at beginner, intermediate, and advanced level. This is a full-time post and involves on average ten hours' language teaching a week during Term time. Some previous teaching experience would be an advantage, as would knowledge of one other Indian language.

The starting date for this appointment is 1 October 2002 and the post is for one year in the first instance. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Language Teaching Officer is £17,626 to £19,681. Interviews are likely to be held in early June. The selection process (for shortlisted candidates) will consist of a written test in Hindi and English, a 15-minute class on some topic of Hindi grammar, and an interview in Hindi and English.

Senior Assistant Registrary in the University Offices (Academic Division)

The person appointed will have a range of duties, including management responsibility for a team supporting the overall administration of University examinations, and will act as Secretary of the relevant committees. This is a senior post requiring relevant administrative experience in Higher Education. Candidates should be educated to degree level and have experience of liaising with, and giving authoritative guidance to, committees, working groups, staff, and senior officers. The post-holder will be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to produce briefings and reports, and will display a high level of initiative.

The salary will be £39,986 a year (with a discretionary point at £42,242). Initial appointment will be for three years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance until the retiring age.

Academic Administrator in the Institute of Continuing Education

Academic Administrator, required as soon as possible, to join the International Division of the Institute of Continuing Education in running a busy programme of Summer Schools for international students of all ages (18 to 80 years plus). Duties include co-ordination of academic elements, management of staff and systems, financial management, and liaison with students and lecturers. Excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills are required, together with an eye for detail and the ability to work under pressure. Salary will be in the range of £24,435 to £29,709, according to age and experience. Temporary Administrative Appointment in the University Offices (Academic Division)

Applications are invited for a full-time unestablished post at Administrative Officer level, to take up post as soon as possible, to assist with the preparations for an Institutional Review of the University by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. The appointment will be for one year.

The post-holder will work with the members of the Education Section in the preparation and collection of documentation and data required for the Institutional Review, including liaison with Faculties and Departments about their internal quality assurance arrangements for teaching, learning, and assessment. He/she will also assist with other activities within the Education Section (please see http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/education/), which is based in the city centre.

Applicants should be graduates with experience of working in administration, preferably in higher education. Good communication and IT skills, and the ability to work to tight deadlines are essential; familiarity with the University's educational provision and an interest in quality assurance would be desirable. The salary will be within the range of £20,470 to £26,491 a year.

Research Associate/College Teaching Fellow in the Department of Applied Economics and Churchill College

Applications are invited for linked appointments as Research Associate (50%) in the Department of Applied Economics and College Teaching Fellow (50%) in Churchill College. The successful candidate will (a) undertake research in the Department of Applied Economics on the application of theoretical microeconomics and game theory to industrial economics, and (b) teach for the undergraduate Economics Tripos and serve as Director of Studies in Economics at Churchill College. Applicants should have at least a postgraduate degree in Economics or the equivalent and evidence of research activity in the area specified. Experience of teaching undergraduates will be an advantage. The appointment will be from 1 October 2002 for three years in the first instance on the salary scale of £17,626 to £26,491 a year.

Although it is intended to appoint one person chosen in a single process, the successful candidate will be appointed to two concurrent half-time posts with two separate but complementary contracts; one with the University and one with Churchill College (these being independent legal and constitutional bodies). This arrangement will not result in the appointee being less favourably treated than someone appointed on a single full-time contract.
