Announcement of lectures and seminars

The following lectures and seminars will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

E. C. Quiggin Memorial Lecture. The Head of the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic gives notice of the seventh annual lecture in memory of Edmund Crosby Quiggin, Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Monro Lecturer in Celtic, University Lecturer in German (d.1920). The theme of these annual lectures is The sources of Gaelic history. The lecturer will be Dr Kay Muhr, who will speak about Gaelic place-names and medieval Gaelic history, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, 15 November, 2001, in Room 6, Second Floor, Faculty of History. The lecture will be followed by a reception in the Senior Combination Room.

Criminology. Dr Amanda Matravers, Lecturer in Criminology and Director of the M.St. Programme in Applied Criminology and Police Studies at the Institute of Criminology, will give a lecture entitled Women who commit sex offences, at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, 22 November, in Room B.16, Faculty of Law, West Road.

Law. Jane Harrison Memorial Lecture. The Jane Harrison Memorial Lecture 2001 will be given at 5.30 p.m. on Friday, 16 November, in Room LG19 of the Faculty of Law, West Road. Professor Mary Kaldor, Principal Research Fellow and Programme Director in the Centre for Global Governance at the London School of Economics and Political Science, will speak on New wars: lessons from the Balkans.
