Girton College

COLLEGE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS, 2001-02

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Applications are invited for Research Fellowships tenable from 1 October 2002 for three years, to be held in any subject. The College normally awards two Fellowships each year, one in the Arts and one in the Sciences. These are open to graduates of any university with no age limit, but are intended to support those at an early stage in their academic careers, and will normally be awarded to candidates who have recently completed their Ph.D. Degree or are close to completion. The competition involves assessment of candidates' submitted work and interview. Those interested should note that the standard needed to progress to the later stages of the competition is extremely high. Overseas candidates should also note that the College cannot be responsible for payment of air fares should they be short-listed for interview.

The emoluments of a Fellowship are reviewed annually. From 1 October 2001 the stipend is on a scale rising by two annual increments from £12,051 to £13,912 a year for a Fellow who has not proceeded to the Ph.D. Degree and £12,982 to £14,851 a year for a post-Ph.D. Fellow. Additional benefits include residence at moderate charge or a living-out allowance of £2,000. Research expenses up to a total of £1,500 over the three years of the Fellowship may be paid.

The closing date for applications is Monday, 24 September 2001 for those applying for an Arts subject, or Wednesday, 3 October 2001 for a Science subject. Short-listed candidates will be invited to submit work in mid-October, and final interviews will take place in late November or early December.

Further particulars and application forms are available from the Administrator to the Research Fellowship Committee, Girton College, Cambridge, CB3 0JG (e-mail jrfs@girton.cam.ac.uk), or may be downloaded from the College's website (http://www.girton.cam.ac.uk/). Please state whether an Arts or Science Application is required on the envelope. Please note that applications must be submitted by post only.
