Somerville College

STIPENDIARY LECTURER IN LAW

Somerville College seeks to appoint a stipendiary Lecturer in Law from October 2001 for one year (extendable for a further year). The College will consider applicants willing to give up to six hours of tutorial teaching a week during term, or alternatively up to twelve hours of tutorial teaching a week during term. The applicant will be expected to provide teaching in two or more undergraduate subjects in Law, including at least one (preferably two for a twelve-hour Lecturer) of the following subjects: Criminal Law, Administrative Law, Contract, Roman Law, or Jurisprudence.

The stipend will be within the range £7,897 to £8,387 for six hours' teaching, or £15,794 to £16,775 for twelve hours' teaching, depending on experience. The closing date for applications is 22 June 2001; interviews are likely to be held in the week beginning 9 July 2001.

STIPENDIARY LECTURER IN OLD AND MIDDLE ENGLISH

The College invites applications for the post of stipendiary Lecturer in Old and Middle English from 1 October 2001 for one year. The Lecturer will be required to provide up to ten hours of tutorial teaching a week during the Full Terms. He or she would be expected to teach Old and Middle English. The Lecturer may be required to take part in the process of selecting students for the College. He or she would be expected to direct the studies of any students who may opt for Course II. The Lecturer will be a member of the Education Committee of the Governing Body of the College.

The stipend will be calculated on an incremental scale, depending on age, and will start at £15,794 or £16,775 pro rata, depending on experience. The Lecturer will have the use of a shared teaching room in College and will be entitled to a number of meals in College during Full Term. He or she will be a member of the Senior Common Room. The closing date for applications is 22 June 2001.
