REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Chemical Engineering Tripos, Mathematical Tripos, and Natural Sciences Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, pp. 248, 318, and 347)

With effect from 1 October 2001

Following the establishment of the Cambridge-MIT Institute by Grace 9 of 22 March 2000 (Reporter, 1999-2000, p. 582), the first student exchanges between the University of Cambridge and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have been arranged for the academical year 2001-02. In order to enable students who undertake such exchanges, and are therefore not in residence for one academical year, to comply with the requirements for the B.A. Degree and the M.Eng. and M.Sci. Degrees the regulations for the Chemical Engineering Tripos, the Mathematical Tripos, and the Natural Sciences Tripos have been amended as set out below.

Chemical Engineering Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 248)

By renumbering Regulations 5 to 18 as 6 to 19 respectively, amending cross-references accordingly, and inserting the following new Regulation 5:

5. A candidate who, under arrangements approved by the Chemical Engineering Syndicate, has spent not less than three terms studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has been certified by the President of the Institute after consultation with the Chairman of Examiners for Part I of the Chemical Engineering Tripos to have studied diligently during that period, shall be deemed thereby to have obtained honours in that Part of the Tripos. A list containing the names of persons so qualified shall be certified by the Chairman of the Chemical Engineering Syndicate and published in the Reporter.

Mathematical Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 318)

By renumbering current Regulations 11 to 24 as 12 to 25 respectively, amending cross-references accordingly, and inserting a new Regulation 11 as follows:

11. A candidate who, under arrangements approved by the Faculty Board of Mathematics, has spent not less than three terms studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has been certified by the President of the Institute after consultation with the Chairman of Examiners for Part IB of the Mathematical Tripos to have studied diligently during that period, shall be deemed thereby to have obtained honours in Part IB of the Mathematical Tripos. A list containing the names of persons so qualified shall be certified by the Chairman of the Faculty Board of Mathematics and published in the Reporter.
