Universities Superannuation Scheme: Notice

14 May 2001

The Council give notice that the Universities Superannuation Scheme has been amended by the Twenty-second Deed of Amendment, dated 1 February 2001.

The Twenty-second Deed of Amendment introduces an augmentation power to facilitate the settlement of any maladministration claim without recourse to the Pensions Ombudsman, a process which can be lengthy and costly for relatively small claims.

The Twenty-second Deed also includes several minor amendments to the rules relating to transfers into USS particularly relating to transfers from Free Standing Additional Voluntary Contribution arrangements (FSAVCs), personal pensions taken out on opting out of USS, and benefits accrued in another pension scheme in respect of concurrent employment.

Full details of the amendment can be obtained from Mrs S. E. Curryer, Head of Pensions Administration, Finance Division, 10 Peas Hill, Cambridge, CB2 3PN, tel. (3)32214.
