Worcester College

BESSE SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP

The College proposes, if candidates of sufficient merit present themselves, to award a Besse Senior Scholarship, tenable from 1 October 2001. The Scholarship is open to research students in the arts who are of French nationality. It is awarded for one year, and is renewable for a second and possibly for a third year. The stipend is £10,530 to £12,988, plus allowances.

It is a condition of the Scholarship that the Besse Senior Scholar should give up to eight hours a week of French language tuition (grammar, prose composition, and oral practice). The Scholar must therefore have good English and an ability to teach French to undergraduates. The closing date for applications is 19 March 2001.

JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN MUSIC

The College proposes, if candidates of sufficient merit present themselves, to award a Junior Research Fellowship in Music, tenable from 1 October 2001. The Fellowship is open to candidates who completed their first degree no more than seven years ago. It is tenable for three years and is non-renewable. The stipend is £7,897 to £9,741, plus allowances.

It is a condition of the Junior Research Fellowship that the holder should give up to six hours a week of tuition in Music. This would comprise history topics ranging across nine centuries, analysis, and supervision of dissertations and options for final-year students. The closing date for applications is 26 March 2001.

JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS IN THE HUMANITIES OR SOCIAL SCIENCES

The College proposes to elect two non-stipendiary Junior Research Fellows in the Humanities or Social Sciences, to hold office for two years from 1 October 2001. The Fellowships may possibly be renewed for a third year. They carry Senior Common Room membership with free lunches and dinners, and assistance with book and research expenses. They are open to men and women who have had not more than seven continuous years in academic work after completing their first degree, although consideration will be given to applicants who have had interrupted academic careers.
