Continuing Overseas and EU Graduate Students, Gates Cambridge Scholarships, ORS Awards, and other Cambridge Trust Awards for 2001-02: Notice by the Board of Graduate Studies

The Board wish to draw to the attention of Continuing Overseas and EU Graduate Students, who are registered for one-year courses and wish to continue graduate study at the University, the arrangements for applying for 2001-02 Gates Cambridge Scholarships, ORS Awards, and awards administered by the Cambridge Trust.

Students registered for one-year courses, including M.Phil. 'only' students, will need to apply to continue as Graduate Students and must follow the instructions given below.

However, students registered for the M.Phil. 'in the first instance', and students already given leave to defer their continuation from last year, do not need to apply to continue and will automatically receive mailings of application forms for the awards for which they are eligible. Deadlines for the return of award application forms may be found below.

The Board will send application forms for the awards listed below to eligible students on 1 February (Gates, ORS, and Cambridge Trusts), 1 March (Gates, ORS, and Cambridge Trusts), 1 April (ORS and Cambridge Trusts), and 17 April 2001 (ORS and Cambridge Trusts).

Gates Cambridge Scholarships timetable: applicants who wish to be considered for Gates Cambridge Scholarships must submit an application to continue to the Ph.D. to the Board of Graduate Studies no later than 28 February 2001. Candidates whose applications to continue are received after 28 February 2001 will not be sent Gates Cambridge Scholarship application forms. Application forms for Gates Cambridge Scholarships must be returned to the Board of Graduate Studies by 15 March 2001. Application forms received after this date will not be considered.

ORS and Cambridge Trust Awards timetable: applicants who wish to be considered for the ORS Awards, administered by Universities UK, and for awards administered by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, Cambridge Overseas Trust, Cambridge European Trust, and associated trusts must submit an application to continue to the Ph.D. to the Board of Graduate Studies no later than 17 April 2001. Candidates whose applications to continue are received after 17 April 2001 will not be sent application forms for ORS Awards or awards administered by the Cambridge Trusts. Application forms for these awards must be returned to the Board of Graduate Studies by 27 April 2001. Application forms received after this date will not be considered.

Application forms for funding returned to the Board by the above dates will be processed by the Board of Graduate Studies and Cambridge Trusts. Applicants will be informed by the Cambridge Trusts whether their funding application is successful during summer 2001.

The Board will inform students if their application to continue has been successful (independently of their funding application) when decisions have been made by the relevant Department, Degree Committee, and College. An offer to continue will always be subject to the student securing full funding guarantees and to satisfactory performance in their current course. However, a provisional offer for continuation will be sufficient for the Cambridge Trusts to make a decision regarding applications for funding.
