HITACHI-WOLFSON RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN ULTRA-FAST OPTO-ELECTRONIC DEVICES

The above Research Fellowship is available jointly between Wolfson College and Hitachi Europe Limited. Applications are invited from candidates with a Ph.D. Degree in physics or engineering and interest in opto-electronic devices. Experience in ultra-fast optics, device fabrication, or simulation would be an advantage. The successful applicant will join a research group actively working on devices for next-generation, high-speed optical communications, in a laboratory which is well equipped with facilities for femtosecond optical measurements, semiconductor device fabrication, and numerical simulation. There are strong links to the Hitachi Central Research Laboratory in Japan. The Fellow will work within the Microelectronics Research Centre and the Hitachi Cambridge Laboratory, Cavendish Laboratory.

The Fellowship will be for two years in the first instance, starting, preferably, on 1 April 2001, with the possibility of extension for a third year. The stipend will be within the University scale for postdoctoral research associates (£16,775 to £25,313 a year). An allowance will be available for conference travel and similar costs.

Applications should be made in writing to the President, Wolfson College, Cambridge, CB3 9BB (or fax +44 (0)1223 335937), including a curriculum vitae and a list of publications, by 31 December 2000.
