Magdalene College

SENIOR BURSAR

The College seeks to appoint to the statutory office of Bursar, with effect from 1 April 2001, a full-time Senior Bursar to succeed Mr D. J. H. Murphy who retires on 30 September 2001. The pensionable salary will be between £40,000 and £46,000 a year.

The Senior Bursar is responsible to the Governing Body not only for the College's finances, including investments, management of the College Estates and other assets, and overall financial strategy, but also for planning, development, and long-term fundraising. He or she will be assisted by the Domus Bursar who has responsibility for the College's operational buildings, plant, and personnel.

The successful applicant will be elected into an Official Fellowship and will have a key role on the College's principal committees. In addition to financial expertise, the qualities required include organizational and communications skills of a high order (both oral and written), an understanding of the College's academic aims and purposes, and the ability to identify with, and to represent, the interests of a community of 70 Fellows, 430 undergraduates and postgraduates, and about 100 assistant staff.
