Professor Sir Alec Broers was appointed Vice-Chancellor from 1 October 1996 for an initial period of five years. This appointment ends on 30 September 2001. Under the provisions of Statute D, III, 2 he may be reappointed for a further period, provided that the total period of his tenure of the office is not more than seven years. The Council have therefore agreed to recommend that he be reappointed for a further two years from 1 October 2001 to 30 September 2003; they are accordingly submitting a Grace to the Regent House for the approval of this reappointment (Grace 1, p. 127).
