New arrangements for the award of additional discretionary increments: Notice

25 September 2000

The discretionary payments scheme for non-clinical academic and academic-related officers in non-professorial grades has been replaced by new arrangements for awarding additional increments to these officers and to the holders of analogous unestablished posts (except contract research and assistant staff). These new arrangements were described in the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board and subsequently approved by the Regent House (Grace 8, 22 March 2000). The current arrangements for awarding additional increments to contract research staff and assistant staff will remain unchanged.

The first annual exercise has now been launched and awards will be effective, retrospectively, from 1 October 2000. Details of the scheme (the guidance) have been circulated to all Council and General Board institutions and are also available on the University Offices' website (http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/personnel/increments/). Information regarding eligibility is contained in the guidance and is also available from Heads of institutions. For eligible staff in Council institutions the closing date for the receipt of applications is 15 October 2000. However, because the current round of applications for promotions to Personal Professorships and Readerships and to Senior Lectureships is taking place during the Michaelmas Term, the Council and the General Board have decided that the timetable for the first annual exercise for General Board institutions should be delayed until the Lent Term. For eligible staff in General Board institutions the closing date for the receipt of applications is 16 January 2001.
