REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, they have approved amendments of the regulations for certain University examinations, as follows:

Chemical Engineering Tripos, Part I

The supplementary regulations for Part I of the Chemical Engineering Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 249) have been amended, with effect from 1 October 2000, as set out below.

Part I

Paper 1

In addition to a section on fluid mechanics and reactor theory to be taken by all candidates, this paper will contain two other sections:

Section 1, General Engineering, will be taken by candidates who have previously obtained honours in the Natural Sciences Tripos or the Computer Science Tripos and will contain questions on basic fluid mechanics;

Section 2, Chemistry, will be taken by candidates who have previously obtained honours in the Engineering Tripos.

Paper 2

This paper is on heat and mass transfer.

Papers 3 and 4

These papers will each be on Chemical Engineering principles, and may contain questions on applied chemistry, thermodynamics, transfer processes, applied mathematics, economic aspects of the chemical industry, and chemical engineering operations. They may also contain questions on control theory, industrial management, and other topics, at the discretion of the Examiners.

Paper 5

In addition to a section to be taken by all candidates, this paper will contain two other sections:

Section 1, General Engineering, will be taken by candidates who have previously obtained honours in the Natural Sciences Tripos or the Computer Science Tripos and will contain, for example, questions on structures and mechanics;

Section 2, Chemistry, will be taken by candidates who have previously obtained honours in the Engineering Tripos.

An Affiliated Student or a student admitted to the examination for Part I under the provisions of Regulation 3 will take the section prescribed for him or her by the Chemical Engineering Syndicate.
