LECTURERSHIP IN PHILOSOPHY

Applications are invited for an eight-hour Lecturership in Philosophy for two years from 1 October 2000. In certain circumstances, renewal for a further year may be possible. Teaching is required for Literae Humaniores, PPE, and other Philosophy schools. The successful candidate will be competent to teach the Logic, Descartes, and Mill options in Prelims, and the papers on Ethics and History of Philosophy from Descartes to Kant in Finals. The ability to teach other subjects would be advantageous.

The Lecturer will be required to teach eight hours a week (averaged over three terms), to take part in Admissions, to assist in the organization of the subject, and to perform other duties normally associated with such a post. The salary will be £10,000 a year for the first year and £10,600 for the second year. Membership of USS is available. In addition, the Lecturer will be entitled to five free meals (lunch or dinner) a week at the common table during the three ten-week terms.

Applicants should provide a curriculum vitae, including details of research interests, any publications, previous experience, and the subjects that they would be prepared to teach, together with the names and addresses of three referees, who should be asked to write directly to the Senior Tutor, Brasenose College, Oxford, OX1 4AJ, by the closing date of 14 July 2000. It is hoped to interview short-listed candidates on 27 July 2000 (subject to confirmation). The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a medical questionnaire.

Brasenose College is an equal opportunities employer.
