Professorship of Aerothermal Technology: Notice

The Board of Electors to the Professorship of Aerothermal Technology, which is based in the Department of Engineering, invite applications for this Professorship, and it is hoped that the successful candidate will take up appointment as soon as possible. Candidates are expected to have an international reputation in their field of specialization, which may be in any branch of Thermodynamics or Fluid Mechanics applied to gas turbines for aircraft engines, power generation, or marine propulsion. Particular areas of interest could be turbomachinery, combustion, heat transfer, unsteady flow, acoustics, engine performance, or CFD applied to any of these topics. It is expected that the Professor will be based at the Whittle Laboratory of the Department of Engineering, which is one of the world's leading centres for turbomachinery research. The Professor will be expected to provide leadership in research in his or her chosen field, to supervise research projects and graduate students, and to undertake undergraduate teaching in the Department of Engineering. The Professorship is sponsored by Rolls-Royce plc and it is expected that the Professor will work closely with them in advancing the technology of modern gas turbines. The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University.
