University Lecturers and University Assistant Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £20,811 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £32,095.

Appointments made at University Assistant Lecturer level will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Assistant Lecturer is £17,238 a year, rising by six annual increments to £22,579.

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in the School of Education

The School of Education aims to strengthen Cambridge's national and international reputation as a leading centre for study and research in education and as a significant contributor to improving educational practice in partnership with schools, colleges, and other educational agencies. The successful candidate will have a higher degree in education (or a related discipline), be an active educational researcher, and will contribute to teaching within the School's highly-regarded programmes of continuing professional development, advanced study, and research. Particular expertise in the area of profound and multiple/severe learning difficulties is sought to enhance the School's existing strengths in inclusive education and special educational needs.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate successful experience in both teacher development and improving educational practice, and the ability to apply this experience in research and evaluation projects. The School is seeking to appoint someone who can give practical support and theoretical guidance to teachers and other educators in their efforts to foster effective teaching and learning in classrooms. The post-holder will take a major responsibility for continuing professional development and higher degree work in the field. The appointment is available from 1 October 2000.

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Experimental Psychology, to take up appointment from 1 October 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be made in the general area of perception/visual cognition or sensory neuroscience.

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in the field of Materials Science, to take up appointment from 1 October 2000. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses at the core of the discipline. Research experience in computational modelling of materials or in polymers would be an advantage.

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, to take up appointment from 1 October 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. Mathematicians with a well-established record of research in any branch of Pure Mathematics are invited to apply for this post.

Computer Officer, Grade I (PC Support Leader), in the University Computing Service

The University Computing Service, which provides facilities and services in support of research and teaching, has a vacancy in the Technical User Services Division for a Computer Officer, Grade I (PC Support Leader). The successful applicant will be responsible for leading a small team which provides Microsoft operating systems and PC applications support to other technical staff and users throughout the University. He or she will be primarily responsible for NT-Support Service and will be expected to contribute to the Service's TechLink programme, which provides targeted support to other IT staff within the University. The applicant will be expected to take a leading role in determining the Service's advice and policy in this area. The applicant should have at least five years' experience in the delivery of IT support and training and must possess interpersonal and organizational skills.

The appointment will be for up to three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time or, when appropriate, to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade I, is £19,869 a year, rising by twelve annual increments to £32,095.

Assistant Library Officer (French/Spanish Language Specialist) in the University Library

Applications are invited for the post of Assistant Library Officer (French and/or Spanish Language Specialist) in the Cataloguing Department of the University Library. Applicants should have a good honours degree, appropriate language skills, a postgraduate qualification in library and information studies, and preferably experience in an academic library.

The appointment will be for five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Assistant Library Officer is £16,286 a year, rising by four annual increments to £19,869.

Temporary Lecturer in the Department of Physiology

Applications are invited for the post of temporary Lecturer in Physiology, available for one year from 1 October 2000, to replace Dr Bill Colledge for his tenure as a Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellow. Applicants must be keen to teach and enthusiastic about their research which may be in any area of Physiology. They will be expected to contribute to the Department's lecture programme, to take charge of some practical classes and demonstrate in others, and to carry a full examining load.

The appointment will be fixed term for the period 1 October 2000 to 30 September 2001. Appointment will be on the scale £16,286 to £18,915.

Temporary Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Social Anthropology

Following the granting of unpaid leave to a member of staff, the Department of Social Anthropology is seeking to fill an eighteen-month temporary Assistant Lectureship for the period 1 October 2000-30 June 2002. There are no restrictions as to regional expertise or sub-disciplinary specialization but applicants will normally be expected to have a doctorate or significant publications in Social Anthropology.
