The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, they have approved amendments of the regulations for certain University examinations, as follows:
On the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Physics and Chemistry, the subject Materials Modelling has been approved by the General Board and the Board of Graduate Studies, with effect from 1 October 2000, as a subject for further study and training in research for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course). Special regulations for the examination in that subject have been approved as follows:
1. The scheme for examination for the one-year course of study in Materials Modelling for the degree of Master of Philosophy shall consist of:
(a) | two written papers, each of which may cover all the areas of study prescribed in the syllabus; |
(b) | a literature survey report; |
(c) | a teamwork project report; |
(d) | a thesis, not exceeding 15,000 words in length, including tables, figure legends, and appendices, but excluding bibliography, on a research project approved or prescribed by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Physics and Chemistry; |
The reports submitted by the candidate under (b) and (c) shall be of a length and on a topic or project, respectively, approved by the Degree Committee
2. The examination shall include an oral examination of the thesis submitted by the candidate under Regulation 1(d); the oral examination may include questions on the general field of knowledge within which the work submitted by the candidate under Regulations 1(a) to (d) falls.
