REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, they have approved amendments of the regulations for certain University examinations, as follows:

Examination in Materials Modelling for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course)

On the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Physics and Chemistry, the subject Materials Modelling has been approved by the General Board and the Board of Graduate Studies, with effect from 1 October 2000, as a subject for further study and training in research for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course). Special regulations for the examination in that subject have been approved as follows:

Materials Modelling

1. The scheme for examination for the one-year course of study in Materials Modelling for the degree of Master of Philosophy shall consist of:

(a) two written papers, each of which may cover all the areas of study prescribed in the syllabus;
(b) a literature survey report;
(c) a teamwork project report;
(d) a thesis, not exceeding 15,000 words in length, including tables, figure legends, and appendices, but excluding bibliography, on a research project approved or prescribed by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Physics and Chemistry;

The reports submitted by the candidate under (b) and (c) shall be of a length and on a topic or project, respectively, approved by the Degree Committee

2. The examination shall include an oral examination of the thesis submitted by the candidate under Regulation 1(d); the oral examination may include questions on the general field of knowledge within which the work submitted by the candidate under Regulations 1(a) to (d) falls.
