Graces to be submitted to the Regent House at a Congregation on 18 March 2000

The Council have sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 18 March 2000:1

1. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon PETER MICHAEL BECKWITH, M.A., Honorary Fellow of Emmanuel College, Chairman of PMB Holdings Ltd, member of the Guild of Benefactors.

2. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon the Rt Hon. Dame ELIZABETH BUTLER-SLOSS, Lord Justice of Appeal.

3. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon the Rt Hon. EDWARD ALAN JOHN GEORGE, M.A., Honorary Fellow of Emmanuel College, Governor of the Bank of England.

4. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon BRENDA MILNER, O.C., O.Q., M.A., Sc.D., F.R.S., F.R.S.C., Honorary Fellow of Newnham College, Professor of Psychology, McGill University, and Dorothy J. Killam Professor, Montreal Neurological Institute.

5. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon ELIAS JAMES COREY, Professor of Chemistry, Harvard University.

6. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon GURDEV SINGH KHUSH, F.R.S., Principal Plant Breeder and Head, Division of Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biochemistry, International Rice Institute, the Philippines.

7. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon Sir DENIS ROOKE, O.M., C.B.E., F.R.S., F.R.Eng., Chancellor of Loughborough University, formerly Chairman of British Gas plc.

8. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon Sir TOM STOPPARD, C.B.E., F.R.S.L., playwright and novelist.

9. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Music honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon ALEXANDER GOEHR, M.A., Emeritus Fellow of Trinity Hall, Emeritus Professor of Music in the University.

1 It is expected that these Honorary Degrees will be conferred at the Congregation to be held on Thursday, 13 July 2000 (see the Vice-Chancellor's Notice, p. 390).
