REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, they have approved amendments of the regulations for certain University examinations, as follows:

Examination in Developmental Biology for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course)

On the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Biology, the subject Developmental Biology has been approved by the General Board and the Board of Graduate Studies, with effect from 1 October 2000, as a subject for further study and training in research for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course). Special regulations for the examination in that subject have been approved as follows:

Developmental Biology

1. The scheme of examination for the one-year course of study in Developmental Biology for the degree of Master of Philosophy shall consist of:

(a) one essay, not exceeding 3,000 words in length, on a topic approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Biology;
(b) a critical appraisal, not exceeding 8,000 words in length, including tables, figure legends, and appendices, but excluding bibliography, of a research project approved or prescribed by the Degree Committee;

2. Each candidate shall undertake practical work as prescribed by the Degree Committee and shall present for the inspection of the Examiners records of such practical work.

3. The examination shall include an oral examination on the work submitted by the candidate under Regulations 1 and 2 above and on the general field of knowledge within which such work falls.
