Applications are invited for the following University offices:

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Architecture

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Architecture, to take up appointment from 1 October 2000. The person appointed will be expected to act as a Studio Master and to contribute to technical teaching in either construction and/or environmental design and to act as a student tutor. An established or developing track record in research, which may include the design of exemplary buildings, is essential.

An appointment made at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £20,811 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £32,095.

An appointment made at University Assistant Lecturer level will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Assistant Lecturer is £17,238 a year, rising by six annual increments to £22,579.

Computer Officer, Grade II, in the School of Clinical Medicine

The IT Support Service in the School of Clinical Medicine wishes to appoint a Computer Officer to play a leading role in the continuing development of IT support services at the Clinical School. The successful candidate will be a computing professional with a good degree or equivalent qualification, together with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an established track record in computing support. Technical experience and System Management of NT servers, with a range of networked Windows 95/NT workstations is essential. Some experience of the Apple Macintosh OS and Unix would also be desirable.

The appointment will be for five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time, or, when appropriate, to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade II, is £23,521 a year, rising by four annual increments to £27,451.

Temporary Assistant Lecturer in the Department of German

The Department of German intend to appoint a Temporary Assistant Lecturer, for twelve months from 1 October 2000, while Dr C. J. Young is on leave of absence. The age-related stipend will be in the range £17,238 to £22,579. The successful candidate will be expected to take responsibility for half the teaching of two undergraduate courses in medieval German literature before 1500 and the medieval module on the Faculty's M.Phil. course in European literature; one third of the undergraduate course in the History of the German Language; and instruction in language exercises in modern German for the undergraduate courses, by arrangement with the Head of Department.

Applicants should send a detailed curriculum vitae and the names of three referees to the Head of Department, Department of German, Sidgwick Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 9DA, from whom further particulars can be obtained. The closing date is 9 March 2000. Referees should be asked to write directly to the Head of the Department by 9 March 2000.

Postdoctoral or Postgraduate Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Physics

The Department hope soon to be in a position to appoint to the post of Postdoctoral or Postgraduate Research Assistant/Associate in Electron Beam Lithography, depending on final confirmation of funds supporting it. Applications are invited from candidates with a Ph.D. Degree in physics or electronics or equivalent experience, together with expertise in electron optics and electron beam systems, to work in the Microelectronics Research Centre of the Cavendish Laboratory, in collaboration with industrial partners in Europe and the USA.

The appointment will be for two years in the first instance, starting in June 2000. The stipend will be within the University scale for postdoctoral Research Assistants/Associates (£16,286-£24,479 a year).
